St Vincent’s Aged Care Project Official Blessing Ceremony

St Vincent’s Aged Care Project Official Blessing Ceremony

26 Mar 2020

Last month saw EMCO Building representatives attend the official blessing ceremony for the new St Vincent’s Aged Care Centre.

EMCO Building’s $28m scope of works began back in March 2018 covering the construction of the new 86 bed, 2-storey residential care facility. The project also incorporated the refurbishment of the existing Community Centre and Heritage listed buildings including a rare intact free-standing store and cellar, dating back to 1837.

Situated on the banks of the Swan River in Guildford, the contemporary design nestles into its historic Guildford location mirroring the settlers in 1829 in the Swan River colony. The project was completed earlier this year and the facility was occupied shortly thereafter.

To officially open the facility, Perth Auxiliary Bishop Donald Sproxton formally blessed the building and sprinkled the rooms and halls with Holy Water using a sprig of gum leaves. A traditional smoking ceremony was conducted by local Wadjuk Noongar Elder Uncle Ben Taylor Cuermara.

Guests included the Bunbury Bishop Gerard Holohan, City of Swan Mayor Cr Kevin Bailey and the City of Swan Chief Executive Mike Foley along with members of the community and industry as well as staff and residents.

EMCO Building Development Manager Rob Clarke noted,

“It wonderful to witness the culmination of so much hard work by the EMCO Building team and its sub-contractors and consultants. They really have done an amazing job embracing the shift from the traditional aged care model to a modern approach. It puts EMCO Building in good stead to provide design and construction guidance for other health organisations”
