EMCO has now received Practical Completion to the first Stage [Accommodation building] of the St Catherine’s project, slightly ahead of the original Client programme. The completed first stage is focused around supporting young Indigenous people from remote communities to complete tertiary education, through the Indigenous access programmes operated by the College.

The Accommodation building includes 3 levels of 54 architecturally designed, high quality student accommodation units complete with high specification lighting, mechanical systems, timber ceilings, floor coverings, tiling and fit out. Common areas include lift and swipe card security throughout the buildings to all levels – including units and carpark areas.

Externally, the building comprises custom coloured tilt panels and steel construction with feature louvers and mesh screening. The building also has unique features incorporated into the design, including communal open area gathering areas within the feature steel Banksia centrepiece [on levels 2 and 3]. The intent is for students to come together amongst the tree tops and enjoy the buildings centre piece area.

In addition, all unit balconies have been finished with screening, enabling reduced use of air conditioning systems and associated power consumption for the college.

The sites limited street access, parking and work area had made it a particular challenging build for the EMCO team. All works and programmed deliveries were closely managed and supervised to ensure limited disruption to neighbouring properties and existing College operations, whilst maintaining progress on site.

The tight programme [7 ½ months] is a testament to the EMCO team, who have delivered the project on budget and slightly ahead of programme.

The second stage of St Catherine’s is the renovation of the Prescott building and construction of a new Indigenous Leaning building. Structural works are now completed and fit out has now started to both the Indigenous leaning and Prescott Building. Works are slightly behind programme in the Prescott due to some unforeseen pre-existing structural issues within the building not anticipated by the team, however EMCO are working closely with Client to resolve all issues and bring the programme back in line with client requirements where possible.
