EMCO Wins $12 Million Guildford Grammer Contract

WA commercial building company and property developer EMCO Building has won the contract to deliver a new $12 million building at Guildford Grammar School.
Named the Catalyst Building, EMCO will construct the two-storey facility which will include executive administration facilities, studio/laboratories, workshop, IT resources areas, general teaching and learning areas, staff planning and resource areas.
EMCO Building general manager Ron Keogh said the project was a modern design set in a heritage environment.
“The modern design will compliment the tradition of the school but create an innovative and contemporary entry statement to the school for visitors, parents and students,” he said.
“With its Great Eastern highway frontage the new build is highly visible and will be a landmark building both for the school and local area.
“It will be situated next to Guildford Grammar’s iconic chapel which will create an interesting juxtaposition.”
Mr Keogh said the project would showcase EMCO’s expertise in delivering landmark buildings in the education sector.
“The Catalyst Building will be the first major build for the school in many years and is a brave statement about the schools progressive nature,” he said.
He said the build program was very tight at one year given the high quality finishes required and the constrained location of the construction site.
“Site access is limited and very tight as the building is being constructed between the gymnasium and the headmaster’s residence,” he said.
“It will require careful project management from our team as we construct while the school continues to operate.
“EMCO Building has extensive construction experience working on live sites in the education sector and we place a great deal of emphasis on safety on all of our projects, particularly at schools where traffic volume is high.”
The building has been designed by Christou and incorporates principles of sustainable design and will employ innovative energy efficient solutions.
The project is due for completion mid 2012.
